Free Bike Coding Sessions Roll Out to Combat Theft in 2026

Local community police officer Monika Baumgart is providing free bicycle coding sessions across the region this year. The service covers standard bicycles, e-bikes, and pedelecs, though some lightweight frames are excluded. Residents can now mark their bikes to deter theft and aid recovery if stolen.

The first confirmed session takes place in Wettenberg-Krofdorf-Gleiberg on Monday, March 9, 2026, between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. No registration is needed, and the event is completely free.

A second opportunity will be available during the 'Weimer GmbH Home Exhibition' in Lollar-Ruttershausen on Saturday, April 26, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Later that day, another session runs at the 'Steam and Gate Festival' in Wettenberg-Wißmar from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

For those in Giessen, a dedicated session is scheduled for Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Unlike the others, this one requires advance booking by phone or email.

Attendees must bring their bicycle, proof of ownership, a valid photo ID, and—if applicable—a battery key for e-bikes or pedelecs. Ultra-lightweight frames made of carbon, Kevlar, or titanium cannot be coded at these events.

The free sessions aim to help residents protect their bikes from theft. By marking frames with a unique code, owners improve the chances of recovery if their property goes missing. Baumgart's initiative offers multiple dates and locations for convenience.
