Fraudsters impersonate officials in Limburg-Weilburg phone scam surge

Authorities in the Limburg-Weilburg district have issued a warning about a surge in fraudulent phone calls. Scammers are impersonating officials from the First Deputy District Commissioner's office to trick residents. The calls specifically target older citizens with false claims about home visits.

The fraudsters are posing as staff from the deputy chief executive's office. They arrange fake in-person meetings, insisting these will happen at the victims' homes. Officials have confirmed that no such calls are being made by the district administration.

Residents are being urged to stay alert and avoid engaging with suspicious callers. Anyone receiving one of these calls should hang up immediately. Reports of similar scams have appeared across Hesse in recent months, including in Darmstadt-Dieburg, Offenbach, and Frankfurt, where fraudsters pretended to be tax or police officers demanding money transfers to so-called 'security accounts'. The Limburg-Weilburg district administration and local police are working together to address the issue. Victims or those targeted by the scam are advised to contact Limburg Police on (06431) 9140-0 to file a report.

The scam involves callers falsely claiming to represent the deputy chief executive's office. Authorities have made it clear that no legitimate calls of this nature are being made. Residents are reminded to verify any unexpected contact and report suspicious activity to the police.
