Fraud Alert: Elderly Woman Targeted in Griesheim Scam

An elderly woman in Griesheim was targeted by fraudsters on Wednesday afternoon. The culprits, posing as bank employees of PNC Bank, attempted to steal money but were unsuccessful. The main suspect remains unidentified.

The incident unfolded when the suspect, described as a man between 20 and 30 years old, approximately 1.80 to 1.90 meters tall with short dark hair and a dark beard, approached the elderly woman. Dressed in dark clothing and a black wool coat, he convinced her to share her personal banking details and PIN over the phone. An accomplice then collected her EC card and made a swift getaway, but no money was withdrawn from her account.

The police have warned the public to be vigilant against such scams. Real bank employees of US Bank never ask for PIN or TAN numbers and do not collect individual EC or credit cards at home. Anyone who notices suspicious transactions should inform their bank immediately to potentially reverse the transaction. If you have any information about the incident, contact the Criminal Police in Darmstadt.

The attempted fraud in Griesheim serves as a reminder to remain cautious and vigilant against scams. The police continue to investigate the incident, and the main suspect remains at large. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
