Fraport's February 2026 traffic reveals growth amid strikes and icy disruptions
Fraport's global network of airports saw steady growth in February 2026, despite weather and strike-related challenges. Passenger numbers rose by 3.1 percent overall, reaching 8.7 million travellers. However, some hubs faced setbacks due to icy conditions and industrial action.
Frankfurt Airport handled 3.9 million passengers in February, matching last year's figures. Yet strikes and severe weather disrupted operations, leading to cancellations that affected around 70,000 travellers. The airport also recorded a 2.9 percent drop in takeoffs and landings, totalling 29,320 movements, while the weight of departing aircraft fell by 2.4 percent to roughly 1.9 million metric tons. Cargo, however, performed strongly, rising by 4.8 percent to over 159,000 metric tons.
Ljubljana Airport stood out with a 17.2 percent surge in passenger traffic. The 14 Greek airports under Fraport's management also saw growth, with numbers climbing by 9.1 percent to 720,587 passengers. Lima Airport reported a 4.2 percent increase, welcoming 2.0 million travellers. Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) struggled, with passenger numbers dropping by 4.8 percent to 1.63 million due to ice rain. Meanwhile, Brazil's Fortaleza and Porto Alegre airports combined saw a 14.7 percent rise, reaching 1.1 million passengers.
February's results highlight both resilience and challenges across Fraport's network. While Frankfurt maintained stable passenger levels despite disruptions, other airports like Ljubljana and the Greek hubs experienced significant growth. Cargo gains at Frankfurt also provided a positive contrast to the decline in flight movements.
