Frankfurt’s U-Bahn restores pre-pandemic train service on U4 and U5 lines

Frankfurt's U-Bahn is set to enhance its service from August 2023. The U4 and U5 lines will return to pre-pandemic frequencies, with more frequent trains on weekends and holidays.

From August 18, 2023, the U4 and U5 lines will resume their full service schedule. During weekday peak hours, trains will run at pre-pandemic frequencies. This is made possible by an increase in the number of train operators.

On weekdays, mid-morning and midday services will improve from 10-minute to 7.5-minute intervals. On Saturday afternoons, trains will arrive every 7.5 minutes instead of every 10. On Sundays and public holidays, the U5 will run every 10 minutes instead of every 15.

The return to full service on U4 and U5 is a significant step towards restoring Frankfurt's public transport network. However, VGF still needs to hire 133 additional drivers by 2025 to potentially resume full service on more lines, such as the U1 and U7, which are set to improve their service in August 2023.
