Frankfurt’s S6 line shuts down for ten days in October for major upgrades

The S6 line between Frankfurt-West and Bad Vilbel will close for ten days in October. Construction work is scheduled from October 19 to 28, coinciding with the autumn school holidays. The shutdown aims to reduce disruption for regular commuters during this period.

The closure is part of ongoing upgrades to complete dedicated tracks for the S6 line. A section of these tracks opened in February, helping to cut delays caused by shared infrastructure. Now, remaining tasks include station improvements and the installation of noise barriers.

During the shutdown, S-Bahn trains will run hourly between Friedberg and Bad Vilbel from October 19 to 21. From October 21 to 28, services will increase to every half-hour. Passengers can transfer to replacement buses at Bad Vilbel, with extra shuttle services operating from Friedberg. The work supports plans for a stable 15-minute service on the S6 line. This improved frequency is set to begin with the December timetable change.

The ten-day closure will allow for essential upgrades along the route. Once complete, the dedicated tracks and station improvements will help deliver more reliable services. A 15-minute timetable is expected to start in December, following the autumn works.
