Frankfurt’s Newroz Festival Draws Massive Crowds, Sparks Traffic Chaos
Frankfurt’s Rebstockgelände grounds hosted the Kurdish New Year festival Newroz today as a stationary rally. The event, which turned out to be the main event, drew far larger crowds than expected, leading to traffic chaos and several disruptions by the afternoon.
The festival began smoothly, but the sheer number of visitors quickly overwhelmed the area. By midday, all nearby parking spaces were full, forcing road closures around the site. Heavy congestion built up on the A648 highway, where drivers committed multiple traffic violations as they tried to reach the event.
The Newroz festival saw record attendance, but the unexpected surge caused significant logistical and security problems. Authorities dealt with traffic violations, illegal drone use, and firearms offences, while organisers managed to remove prohibited symbols.
