Frankfurt's Massive Civil Protection Exercise 'ÜB’s! 2025' Concludes Successfully

Frankfurt has successfully concluded its largest-ever civil protection exercise, 'ÜB’s! 2025', with over 300 participants. The seven-day event, supported by Hesse’s Interior Minister Roman Poseck, tested the city's resilience against complex threats. Insights from the exercise will strengthen Frankfurt's crisis management strategies.

The exercise, 'ÜB’s! 2025', was divided into three interconnected phases. Firstly, municipal crisis management was evaluated, followed by a large-scale live drill, and finally, command staff operations were put to the test. The interim chief of the Frankfurt Fire Department, Markus Röck, played a crucial role in managing the crisis.

In the live drill, emergency responders demonstrated exceptional skill. They identified hazardous substances and evacuated severely injured patients within a rapid 54 minutes. The scenario presented a fictional hybrid threat, combining cyberattacks, sabotage, disinformation, and a hazardous materials attack leading to mass casualties. The fire department's command staff trained for 32 hours under near-real conditions, honing their skills in structured command operations.

The successful conclusion of 'ÜB’s! 2025' has provided valuable insights for Frankfurt's crisis management. The city's agencies have shown their ability to maintain public order, supply security, and communication amid complex threats. The exercise has prepared emergency responders for complex crisis scenarios and ensured operational readiness.
