Frankfurt’s historic Academy of Labor building gets a new lease on life until 2030

Frankfurt’s historic Academy of Labor building in Bockenheim is set for a new chapter. The city has secured interim use rights until 2030, paving the way for future housing and social services. Originally founded in 1921, the site now falls under the management of the Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft Frankfurt.

The building, constructed in 1957, was once part of an ambitious plan by the AdAptiv BauGeno cooperative. Their vision included a barrier-free, sustainable residential project for around 90 people. However, rising construction and financing costs made the scheme financially unworkable.

The former Academy of Labor will now serve both residential and social needs under city oversight. The commitment to community use ensures the site remains accessible and purposeful. With interim rights secured, Frankfurt can move forward with concrete plans for the building’s long-term role.
