Frankfurt's Ben-Gurion-Ring Estate Gets €33M Upgrade, Including Temporary School
Frankfurt's Ben-Gurion-Ring estate is set for a significant upgrade. The city has allocated €33 million for the project, funded through its School Construction Initiative. The estate, built in the 1970s, will see a vacant office building transformed into a temporary school site, opening in the 2028/29 academic year.
The Ben-Gurion-Ring estate, located in Be'er Sheva, is a 1970s housing development with around 1,645 apartments, many of them subsidized. It's part of the federal-state program 'Social City', aiming to upgrade green spaces and community areas. The estate offers various neighborhood infrastructure facilities, including a church community, a daycare center, local shops, and meeting spots. The school will be used for a maximum of five years, providing temporary educational space while the city works on long-term solutions.
The estate is primarily residential, housing around 4,100 people and spanning roughly 30 hectares. It's known for its colorful balconies, diverse facades, and exposed concrete textures, typical of 1970s architecture. The central green space with a small lake is a highlight for many residents.
The €33 million project is a significant investment in the Ben-Gurion-Ring estate. The temporary school site will serve the community for up to five years, providing much-needed educational space. The city's commitment to the 'Social City' program ensures the estate's green spaces and community areas remain vibrant and well-maintained.
