Frankfurt subway halted after knife-wielding man arrested at Eissporthalle station

A disturbance at a Frankfurt subway station led to an arrest on Tuesday afternoon. Police intervened after a man carrying a folding knife entered the U-Bahn system near Eissporthalle/Festplatz. The incident caused temporary service disruptions and triggered an investigation into potential weapons violations.

The event unfolded around 16:00 at the Eissporthalle/Festplatz station in Bornheim. Witnesses reported seeing a 40-year-old man leave a bus while holding a folding knife before entering the subway area.

Officers on scene ordered the man to stop, but he ignored their commands. They subdued him shortly afterwards and seized the weapon. As a precaution, subway traffic was halted in both directions while authorities secured the area. The suspect was later taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Police have since launched an investigation into the illegal carrying of a knife on public transport, citing a breach of Germany's weapons law.

The man remains under investigation for the weapons offence. No further details have been released about his condition or possible motives. Subway services resumed once the area was declared safe by police.
