Frankfurt police crack down on crime with wave of arrests at central station

Frankfurt police have stepped up patrols in the city’s central station area after a series of arrests over the past week. Officers detained multiple individuals, including a suspected drug dealer, a thief, and a man breaching an area ban. The crackdown follows ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the area.

On the morning of 8 January 2026, a 45-year-old man was arrested in the B-level of Frankfurt (Main) central station. He was suspected of dealing crack cocaine and had no legal right to stay in Germany. Police took him into custody for a court appearance.

During routine checks, officers also found cocaine and a utility knife on another individual. Criminal complaints were filed for narcotics and weapon offences. Meanwhile, a man under an area ban was caught violating the restriction and later faced a judge, who issued a four-day detention order.

In a separate incident, a thief stole an e-scooter after spraying the owner with pepper spray. Police quickly apprehended the suspect, returning the scooter to its rightful owner. Two other arrested individuals faced different outcomes—one was sent to a correctional facility, while the other paid a fine on the spot.

The operation is part of a wider push launched in September 2022 to increase police visibility in the station area. Additional officers have been deployed to inspect areas where street vendors and criminals often gather.

Three people wanted on arrest warrants were also taken into custody during the operation. Authorities have made it clear that the station area will no longer be a safe space for illegal activity. The measures aim to reduce crime and respond to public concerns about safety in the area.
