Frankfurt Police Arrest Man for Odometer Tampering in Used Car Fraud
Police in Frankfurt am Main arrested a 33-year-old man on Friday, November 8, 2024, on suspicion of odometer tampering. The arrest followed a complaint from a buyer who discovered a fraudulent odometer reading on a vehicle he had purchased.
The suspect had listed a Mercedes-Benz on an online sales platform, claiming it had 167,500 kilometers on the clock. However, police found the actual odometer reading to be 325,975 kilometers, indicating a significant manipulation.
During their investigation, authorities discovered that the suspect had potentially sold multiple vehicles with false odometer readings. They also found evidence of manipulation in a second vehicle, suggesting a pattern of deceitful behavior.
The buyer, a 38-year-old man, noticed the discrepancy after purchasing the car and promptly filed a complaint. This led to the suspect's arrest in Pfannmüllerstraße.
The 33-year-old suspect is now in custody, facing charges of odometer tampering and fraud. Police investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of his activities and any potential victims. The incident serves as a reminder for buyers to thoroughly inspect vehicles and verify odometer readings before making a purchase.
