Frankfurt police arrest car thief after late-night chase in Sachsenhausen

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Frankfurt’s Sachsenhausen district after police caught him stealing from an unlocked car. The incident began when officers noticed suspicious behaviour near a parked vehicle on Hans-Thoma-Straße. The suspect, who lacks legal residency in Germany, was later detained with stolen items in his possession.

The encounter unfolded on the evening of June 12, 2025. Patrol officers first saw the man tampering with a car on Hans-Thoma-Straße. As they approached, he tried to reach inside but then fled toward Otto-Hahn-Platz.

The suspect remains in custody, facing charges related to theft and unauthorised residence in Germany. The recovered items have been logged as evidence, while the victim’s phones were promptly returned. Authorities continue to investigate possible connections to other unsolved cases in the area.
