EKHN to Bring Kirchentag to Frankfurt - Frankfurt Eyes Return of Major Protestant Church Congress in 2030s
The Protestant Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) is planning to host the German Protestant Church Congress in Frankfurt am Main in the early 2030s. A final decision on the invitation will be made next year by the church’s governing board, with discussions already underway about funding and logistics. Frankfurt has hosted the event five times before, though the 2021 edition was heavily reduced due to the pandemic. If approved, the congress would take place under the EKHN’s jurisdiction, which covers much of central and southern Hesse, as well as parts of Rhineland-Palatinate, including Mainz. The EKHN’s proposal includes a dedicated budget and potential state support. If accepted, the congress would mark a significant return for Frankfurt after the pandemic-affected 2021 event. The church’s leadership sees it as an opportunity to strengthen community ties and revitalise its mission.
