Frankfurt Central Station tightens security amid record passenger traffic
Frankfurt Central Station remains one of Germany's busiest transport hubs, with up to 400,000 travellers passing through daily. To ensure safety, Deutsche Bahn has stepped up security measures, including dedicated patrols and public awareness campaigns. Passengers are being urged to stay vigilant and follow key guidelines while navigating the station's bustling platforms. The station sees around 636,500 train arrivals and departures every year, making safety a top priority. Deutsche Bahn advises passengers to remain behind the white safety line and pay close attention to signal tones and announcements. Extra caution is needed when trains are moving through, arriving, or leaving the station.
Under an emergency programme, six two-person DB Security patrols operate from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. These officers maintain a visible presence, monitor passenger behaviour, and assist anyone with concerns or questions. They also educate travellersāespecially children and teenagersāon safe conduct at stations and near tracks. In addition to DB Security, prevention officers (PrƤventionsbeamte) patrol the platforms, engaging with passengers to promote safety. Nationwide, Deutsche Bahn employs around 1,000 of these officers, covering all 16 federal states, with a focus on major stations in Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Baden-WĆ¼rttemberg. The Federal Police also maintain a 24/7 precinct at Platform 24, providing an additional layer of security. Passengers are reminded to secure their bags, keep valuables close, and stay alert to avoid theft or accidents in crowded areas.
