Frankfurt Airport's Terminal 3 hosts high-stakes emergency response drill
Frankfurt Airport's new Terminal 3 became the focus of a major emergency drill on Tuesday. The exercise, led by Frankfurt Police and the Federal Police Directorate, brought together over 170 responders for a full day of training. Organisers stressed the importance of such drills in preparing teams for real high-pressure incidents.
The drill began at 9:00 AM and continued into the late afternoon under the motto 'Practice makes perfect'. More than 200 police trainees and cadets took part as extras, helping to create realistic scenarios for responders. The exercise tested coordination, communication, and joint tactical responses across multiple simulated emergencies.
Observers Kerstin Kohlmetz and Bodo Koch monitored the drills closely, assessing how well different agencies worked together. The organisers later explained that these exercises help refine response strategies and ensure teams remain sharp. Various scenarios were rehearsed, each designed to challenge the participants' ability to react quickly and effectively. The operation involved only Frankfurt's local and federal police units, with no connection to other reported drills, such as the 2026 emergency exercise planned for Nuremberg Airport.
By the end of the day, over 170 responders had completed the training, gaining hands-on experience in managing large-scale incidents. The drill reinforced interagency cooperation, which authorities say is critical for handling real emergencies. Terminal 3's infrastructure provided a practical setting for testing response plans under realistic conditions.
