Winter Weather: Frankfurt Flight Operations Running Stably So Far - Frankfurt Airport stays open despite icy winter weather challenges

Frankfurt Airport remains operational despite heavy winter weather across Germany. While no major disruptions have been reported, icy conditions have led to changes in republic services and travel advice for passengers.

On Thursday, winter weather prompted around 200 aircraft deicing operations at the airport. A total of 25 deicing vehicles were used to clear 25 commercial passenger planes, though their specific details—such as airlines or flight numbers—were not disclosed. All deicing was handled by Fraport’s ground services.

The Sky Line train service at the airport has been temporarily suspended due to icy tracks. Shuttle buses are now running in its place to transport passengers between terminals. Meanwhile, takeoffs and landings have continued as usual. Authorities are keeping a close watch on wind speeds and will adjust operations if needed. The airport expects around 1,100 flights today, carrying roughly 146,000 travellers. To avoid delays, passengers have been advised to arrive three hours before their scheduled departures on Friday and Saturday.

Despite the winter conditions, Frankfurt Airport has maintained normal flight operations so far. Travel advice remains in place, and republic services are adapting to ensure smooth passenger movement. The situation will continue to be monitored throughout the day.
