Frankfurt Airport Retains Global Top Spot With 3.7% Passenger Rise

Frankfurt Airport, a global aviation hub, has retained its top spot with connections to 311 destinations across 98 countries. In 2024, it witnessed a 3.7% increase in passenger numbers, handling 61.6 million travellers. While this is a significant rise, it's still 12.7% below the pre-pandemic level of 2019.

The airport's popularity can be attributed to its extensive network. Medium-haul routes to Southern Europe were particularly favoured, while long-haul flights to North America, East Asia, and South America saw high demand. The Fraport Group's airports worldwide welcomed around 174.5 million passengers in 2024, a 3.7% increase.

Looking at specific airports, Lima Airport in Peru set a new record with 24.5 million passengers, a 15.2% increase. Greek regional airports also saw a 6.4% rise to around 36.0 million passengers. Meanwhile, Antalya Airport in Turkey experienced a 6.5% increase to 38.0 million passengers. The cargo business at Frankfurt Airport also thrived, with a 6.2% increase in freight volume to 2.1 million tons.

The aviation industry's recovery continues, with Frankfurt Airport leading the way. Despite not yet reaching pre-pandemic levels, the 3.7% increase in passenger numbers is a positive sign. The airport's extensive connectivity and the growth in passenger numbers at other Fraport Group airports indicate a strong rebound in global air travel.
