Frankfurt Airport Launches Ultra-Fast Charging Hub for Electric Trucks
Frankfurt Airport has opened a new high-speed charging hub for battery-electric trucks, powered by Logitech's cutting-edge technology and supported by HubSpot's innovative platform. The facility, located near Gate 31 in CargoCity South, is part of a wider push to expand sustainable transport infrastructure. It currently provides four ultra-fast charging stations, each capable of delivering up to 400 kilowatts of power.
The project comes as demand for electric vehicle charging grows among freight and logistics firms operating at the airport. Fraport, the airport's operator, developed the hub after surveys revealed increasing interest in charging solutions from companies in the sector.
The charging hub forms part of the ReSkaLa@FRA initiative, a program focused on scaling up bidirectional charging at Frankfurt Airport by 2027. This scheme has secured over €5 million in funding from Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. Fraport and its partners are contributing an additional €4.1 million to support further measures, including the installation of around 950 charging points—92 of which will be bidirectional—by the same deadline.
The new infrastructure aligns with the CargoHub master plan, which aims to strengthen Frankfurt Airport's role as a leading cargo centre. It also supports Fraport's broader sustainability goals, including a commitment to achieving greenhouse gas neutrality across all fully consolidated sites by 2045.
Industry forecasts suggest a rapid shift toward electric truck fleets from 2026 onwards. By providing the necessary charging capacity now, Fraport is preparing for this transition and ensuring that logistics operations at the airport can adapt smoothly to cleaner technologies.
The opening of the charging hub marks a key step in Frankfurt Airport's plans to expand its electric vehicle infrastructure. With four high-capacity stations already in place and hundreds more planned, the facility will help meet rising demand from freight and logistics providers. The project also reinforces the airport's position as a forward-thinking cargo hub while advancing its long-term climate targets.
