Four Drunk and Drugged Drivers Arrested During Carnival in Hesse
Police in southern Hesse stopped four drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs during Carnival celebrations. The incidents happened overnight between Sunday, February 8, and Monday, February 9. Officers took all four motorists into custody for further investigation.
The first arrest took place in Büttelborn, where a 43-year-old woman was pulled over after attending a Carnival event. Her blood alcohol concentration measured 2.84‰, the highest reading of the night. She was placed in preliminary custody immediately.
A 24-year-old driver in Groß-Gerau's 'Im Schließgarten' area was also stopped with a blood alcohol level of 2.74‰. Not far from there, on the A67 motorway near Büttelborn, a 43-year-old man recorded a reading of 2.62‰.
In Riedstadt's Ostring district, a 25-year-old man tested positive for cannabis use. Unlike the other cases, his impairment came from drugs rather than alcohol.
All four drivers now face criminal investigations for operating a vehicle while impaired.
The arrests highlight the risks of driving under the influence during festive periods. Police have not released further details about potential penalties or court proceedings. Authorities continue to urge caution on the roads during celebrations.
