Former Selangor Official Acquitted in RM1.7M AWS Contract Case

Former Selangor government official, Mazlan Mahadi, has been acquitted and discharged by the Shah Alam Sessions Court. The judge ruled that the prosecution failed to prove a case against him, regarding a RM1.7 million contract for AWS Landing Zone services.

Mazlan, who was a Director of Business Development at Selangor Smart Delivery Unit Innovations Sdn Bhd (SSDU Innovations), was charged under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009. The offence was alleged to have occurred at the SSDU Innovations office in Petaling Jaya on March 25, 2020.

The contract in question was worth more than RM1.7 million and involved Design, Develop, Deploy, and Maintain the AWS Landing Zone. However, the judge found that Amazon Web Services (AWS) had recommended the company, MMSC Ventures Sdn Bhd, for the project, not Mazlan Mahadi.

The Shah Alam Sessions Court acquitted and discharged Mazlan Mahadi from the charge of using his position for a direct appointment recommendation. The prosecutor's failure to prove a prima facie case led to the judge's decision.
