Ford Credit Fined CHF 300,000 for Leasing Cartel

Ford Credit, the financial arm of the American automaker, has been fined over CHF 300,000 by the Swiss Competition Commission (ComCo). The penalty stems from an investigation into information exchanges about automobile leasing between Ford Credit and other companies from 2006 to 2014.

The probe began in 2013 after Mercedes-Benz Financial Services self-reported its involvement in the matter. Ford Credit, along with other companies, agreed on a common approach and uniform fee for VAT refunds, which is considered a violation of competition laws. The company has since appealed the decision to the Federal Administrative Court, but the judgment is not yet final and can be appealed further to the Federal Supreme Court. The fine includes procedural costs in addition to the penalty itself.

Ford Credit's appeal is currently pending, and the final outcome of the case remains uncertain. The company's involvement in the information exchange and the subsequent fine highlight the importance of fair competition in the automobile leasing industry.
