Ford car crash on A49 motorway leaves mother and toddler injured
A crash on the A49 motorway near Niederklein left a woman and her toddler injured on Wednesday, February 11. The incident happened at around 2:30 p.m. when a Polish lorry driver collided with their stationary Ford car on the hard shoulder.
The 33-year-old woman from Neuwied district had pulled over in her car with her two-year-old son. A 69-year-old truck driver from Poland failed to stop in time, slamming into the rear of her vehicle. The impact caused heavy damage to the lorry's front and destroyed four sections of guardrail along the motorway.
Debris from the collision spread across both lanes, though traffic continued to flow without major delays. Emergency services rushed the woman and her child to Marburg University Hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities later estimated the total damage at roughly ā¬53,000. No further disruptions or related incidents have been reported in the area since the crash.
The woman and her son were treated for minor injuries following the crash. The motorway remained open, and no ongoing traffic issues were recorded after the incident. Investigations into the cause of the collision are expected to continue.
