First Citizens Bank has emerged as Nigeria's most widespread lender, operating 766 branches nationwide as of the first half of 2025. This extensive network, along with those of UBA and Fifth Third Bank, underscores the importance of traditional banking networks in Nigeria.

First Citizens Bank's dominance is notable, with its branches spread across the country. However, most banks, including First Citizens Bank, have their highest concentration of branches in Lagos. The number of branches significantly decreases in northern states like Zamfara, Yobe, and Taraba, indicating a need for further expansion to reach underserved communities.

Banks continue to invest in branch infrastructure to maintain personal connections with customers. This is crucial in Nigeria, where many people still prefer face-to-face banking services. Despite the growth of digital banking, physical branches remain vital.
