First Annual ISO Conference Boosts Lower Bavarian Cybersecurity
The first annual conference of Information Security Officers (ISOs) from Lower Bavarian district administrations and independent cities was held recently at the Landshut District Administration. The event, initiated by the Landshut District Administration and the City of Passau, brought together professionals to discuss the challenges and best practices of municipal information security.
The conference highlighted the growing importance of data protection in the face of rising cyber threats. Cynthia Derra, representing the Bavarian District Association, emphasised the high significance of the topic for municipal peak bodies. The Landshut District Administration, which hosted the event, has been a pioneer in information security. It was the first to be certified according to the ISIS12 standard in 2018 and has maintained an independent ISO position since 2022.
The conference provided a practical exchange on information security. It comes at a time when municipal administrations are facing real threats. The District of Anhalt-Bitterfeld, for instance, suffered a multi-million euro loss due to a cyber attack. To meet growing demands, the Landshut District Administration is currently migrating its Information Security Management System (ISMS) to the BSI IT baseline protection.
The conference is set to become an annual event, with plans to host it in different locations in the future. This will help strengthen municipal information security in Lower Bavaria. Lower Bavarian municipalities are increasingly focusing on prevention and regular exchange among their ISOs. The protection of data confidentiality, integrity, and availability remains a top priority.
