Fire damages Marburg apartment after kitchen blaze on Sunday afternoon

A fire broke out in an apartment on Neue Kasseler Straße in Marburg on Sunday afternoon. The blaze started in the kitchen of a first-floor flat at around 2:30 p.m. on February 22, 2026. No injuries were reported, and residents had already left safely before firefighters arrived.

Fire crews responded quickly to the scene and extinguished the flames. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities yet to confirm how it started. Duty Police Commander T. Schauberick oversaw the operation.

Early estimates suggest the damage will cost around €25,000. The apartment's occupants had evacuated on their own before emergency services arrived. No other kitchen fires have been officially recorded in Marburg during 2025 or early 2026.

The incident caused significant property damage, but no one was hurt. Investigations will continue to determine the exact cause of the blaze. Authorities have not linked the fire to any other recent incidents in the area.
