Final stretch of Huy Bike Trail nears completion with 2026 opening planned

A new three-kilometre bike path along a former railway line has entered its final construction phase. The route connects Dedeleben to Jerxheim station and forms the last section of the Huy Bike Trail. Funding for the €2.3 million project comes from federal and state sources. The path is being built along an old railway track, repurposing the disused line. Officials expect to finish the Jerxheim station section by 2023, with the full extension to Schöppenstedt and Schöningen due by late 2026. Construction on this final stretch began in spring 2026.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place with Saxony-Anhalt's Infrastructure Minister, Lydia Hüskens, in attendance. The project's progress has been documented in a video by Thomas Kampernolte, showing the route's development and construction details.

Plans suggest the path could open on October 3, coinciding with German Unity Day. Once complete, it will link to existing cycling networks in Schöppenstedt and Schöningen, improving regional connections. The bike path's completion will mark the finish of the Huy Bike Trail. It will provide cyclists with a direct route between Dedeleben and Jerxheim, as well as onward links to nearby towns. The €2.3 million investment aims to boost sustainable transport in the region.
