FES Building 48 Affordable Passive House Units in Frankfurt's Höchst District
Frankfurt Waste Management and Services GmbH (FES) is constructing a significant housing project in the Höchst district. The development, set to be completed by summer 2026, comprises four new buildings with 48 residential units and four commercial spaces on a 2,584 square meter plot. The project aims to alleviate Frankfurt's housing shortage and benefit FES employees.
The new apartments, designed to meet passive house standards and heated by geothermal energy, will offer accommodation for up to 136 people. Notably, eight of these units are barrier-free, ensuring accessibility for all. Around 75% of the units will be publicly subsidized, with 15 on the I funding path and 21 on the II funding path. The remaining 12 apartments will be privately financed. Additionally, a community house with shared spaces will be built.
The project boasts an excellent connection to public transport, with both a station and bus station nearby. Upon completion, rental priority will initially be given to FES employees. Any unrequested apartments will be allocated through Frankfurt's housing office.
The topping-out ceremony for this project was held in Höchst on September 26, 2023. Upon completion in summer 2026, these energy-efficient apartments will provide much-needed housing in Frankfurt, with a significant portion being affordable for local residents and FES employees.
