Faulty gas cylinder sparks destructive shed fire in Romrod

A garden shed in Romrod was completely destroyed by fire on Saturday, December 27, 2025. The blaze, caused by a faulty gas cylinder, also left one person with minor injuries. Authorities are now investigating the incident.

The fire broke out at around 4:40 p.m. on Am Eckstein street. A witness spotted the flames and immediately alerted emergency services. Within minutes, 30 responders from multiple fire brigades and a police patrol unit arrived at the scene.

Initial findings suggest the fire started due to a defective gas bottle connected to a patio heater. One person inside the shed attempted to contain the blaze but suffered minor injuries in the process. The shed was entirely consumed by the fire, resulting in an estimated €10,000 in property damage.

The Kriminalpolizei Alsfeld has taken over the investigation. Further inquiries are underway to determine whether additional factors contributed to the incident.

The destroyed shed and minor injuries highlight the risks of faulty gas equipment. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire. No further details have been released at this time.
