AfD List in Bad Homburg Not Approved for Local Election - Far-right AfD blocked from Bad Homburg elections over procedural flaws

The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has been barred from running in Bad Homburg’s upcoming municipal elections. The decision follows a procedural error in how its candidate list was drawn up. An internal complaint first raised concerns about the process.

Bad Homburg’s electoral officer, Dirk Hübner, rejected the AfD’s electoral list for the March 15 vote. The party failed to invite all members to the meeting where candidates were selected, breaking state electoral law. Klaus Schudt, the AfD’s local representative, admitted that not every member received an invitation.

The initial warning came from within the AfD’s own district association. Frank Bücken, a lawyer and chair of the faction, alerted the electoral committee. The district association had also dissolved the local AfD branch two months earlier, a move now under legal challenge. Schudt accused the district leadership of deliberately undermining the Bad Homburg branch, claiming their goal was 'to destroy us here'. The AfD had two days to appeal the decision but did not file an objection. Currently, one non-affiliated AfD representative remains on the city council.

The disqualification means the AfD will not appear on the ballot for Bad Homburg’s elections. The party’s internal disputes and missed deadlines led to the final ruling. No further legal steps have been announced.
