Ex-Allstate ‘Agent of the Year’ jailed for $220K car insurance fraud scheme

A former top insurance agent, Jeremy Lasseter, once named 'agent of the year' by Allstate, has been sentenced to prison after admitting to fraud. Lasseter, who previously worked for State Farm, pleaded guilty to misusing over $220,000 in premium payments, including those from car insurance clients. The scheme involved diverting client funds for personal gain and professional recognition, persuading clients to make online payments directly to him or in cash instead of sending payments to Allstate. Some of the stolen money was later used to cover premiums for other customers. Lasseter's conviction brings an end to a case that exposed weaknesses in premium handling and online payment processing. He will serve his sentence while the insurance industry, including State Farm, reviews safeguards for client payments. The repayment of funds does not reduce the legal consequences of his actions.
