EVO Launches Major Project to Create CO₂-Neutral Heat Supply by 2026
EVO is embarking on a major project to modernize its energy plant and expand its district heating network. This significant investment aims to create a CO₂-neutral heat supply for the city, efficient, regional, and independent of fossil fuels. The project, set to be completed by May 2026, involves laying approximately 600 meters of piping and doubling the transmission capacity in the area.
The expansion will be carried out in three phases, with the first phase commencing in mid-October. EVO will begin along Richard-Wagner-Straße and J.F. Kennedy Promenade, extending the network to Schubertstraße. A new main transmission line will be installed as part of this project.
The modernization of the EVO energy plant is a key aspect of this project. It aims to increase waste heat recovery capacity and improve overall efficiency. This will significantly contribute to the city's planned energy transition, as part of the 'Future Heat' project.
The expansion is expected to cause some disruptions to road traffic and heat supply. Affected parties will be notified in advance. Despite these temporary inconveniences, the project is a crucial step towards a sustainable future, with the ultimate goal of decommissioning the old combined heat and power plant on Andréstraße.
EVO's investment of several hundred million euros in this district heating expansion demonstrates a commitment to a greener future. Upon completion, the project will have doubled the transmission capacity, laid approximately 600 meters of piping, and significantly improved the efficiency of the EVO energy plant. This is a significant stride towards the city's planned energy transition and a CO₂-neutral heat supply.
