EU's Ambitious High Speed Rail Network to Revolutionize Travel
The Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) has been championing the construction of a vast High Speed Rail Network. Expected to be adopted by the European Commission, this ambitious project aims to revolutionise European transport.
Spanning over 49,400 kilometres, the network will connect major EU cities, carrying 50% of long-distance passengers and 20% of conventional train passengers. Trains will zoom at speeds ranging from 250 km/h to 350 km/h, significantly boosting travel distances for tourists.
CER's Executive Director Alberto Mazzola emphasises the need for Greece to join this network for both domestic and cross-border transport. He also highlights the lack of rail infrastructure in Europe as a barrier to necessary investments. The estimated cost for implementing this network is €546 billion, with completion expected in 20 years.
The European Commission will present the Masterplan for High Speed Connections on 21 October. Once completed, the High Speed Rail Network promises to transform European travel, connecting cities efficiently and sustainably.
