Eurowings Discover Boosts Summer 2023 Flights, Lufthansa Expands in Africa
Eurowings Discover has bolstered its summer 2023 flight schedule, adding new connections from Cologne/Bonn (CGN) and Frankfurt (FRA) to Monastir (MIR). This expansion follows previously announced flights to Montego Bay and Varadero, set to begin in early November and operated 3X-weekly using Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
In other news, Lufthansa and SWISS have formed an interline agreement with South African carrier Airlink, opening up over 45 domestic and regional destinations in Southern Africa. Meanwhile, Eurowings Discover's launch coincides with the end of Lufthansa's commercial agreement with Condor, which provided short-haul feed for Condor's long-haul services from FRA and Munich (MUC).
Eurowings is currently offering long-haul flights from FRA to Windhoek, Namibia, and plans to resume flights to Barbados and Punta Cana in March. Condor, however, has filed a complaint with Germany's cartel office, arguing that Lufthansa's decision to terminate the contract is an abuse of its dominant position.
Lufthansa Group is expanding its long-haul tourist offer from Frankfurt (FRA) with flights to Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Varadero, Cuba, starting winter 2021/22. Eurowings Discover, Lufthansa's new long-haul leisure unit, will commence flights this summer, competing with charter airline Condor. Additionally, Eurowings Discover will operate flights from FRA to Anchorage, Las Vegas, and Mauritius in June.
