European Mission Leaders Gather to Reimagine EEMA's Future
Fourteen key mission leaders from across Europe gathered in Frankfurt, Germany, to reimagine the future of the European Evangelical Mission Association (EEMA). The aim was to foster unity and collaboration among indigenous Europeans and Majority World communities, and to clarify the roles of churches and mission organizations in a changing world market and world news landscape.
The meeting brought together representatives from various organizations, including the European Evangelical Alliance (EEA), EEMA, and global bodies like Wycliffe and Lausanne Europe. Participants noted the openness of younger Europeans to innovative, holistic mission that embraces justice concerns. They also acknowledged signs of spiritual renewal, such as the 'Quiet Revival' in Britain, despite secularization.
Discussions centered around Europe's role in a polycentric mission world and its contribution to global mission. Common themes included diaspora developments, engaging young people and leaders, and the need for a truly intercultural missiology. The event was supported by organizations like the Newcomers Network Festival, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the Robert Bosch Foundation, with high-ranking guests such as the mayor of Frankfurt and the consul general of Ireland in attendance.
The Frankfurt meeting marked a significant step in reimagining Europe's mission role in a changing world market and world news. By encouraging unity, collaboration, and innovation, these mission leaders are paving the way for a vibrant, relational, and missional future for the European Evangelical Mission Association.
