The image shows a large group of people in a store with shopping carts, standing on the floor and some of them holding bags. There are poles with ribbons, racks with objects, boards with text, lights on the ceiling, and other objects in the background. The text on the boards suggests that the store is a Walmart, and the people in the image are likely shopping for Black Friday deals.

Europe braces for 6.2 billion holiday shipments as demand surges

Europe is preparing for a busy delivery season, with 6.2 billion shipments expected from October to December. This marks a 9% rise compared to the same period in 2023. Germany will play a major role, ranking as the continent's second-largest market for peak-season parcels.

FedEx forecasts a 9% year-over-year increase in courier, express, and parcel volumes across Europe. The surge reflects higher demand during the holiday period, including events like Black Friday. In Germany alone, Black Friday shipments are set to grow by 7.5%, reaching 29.5 million parcels.

Of the 6.2 billion shipments predicted for Europe, around 400 million will move by air freight instead of road transport. Germany will handle roughly 1.1 billion shipments during the peak season, accounting for 17.4% of Europe's total. The UK remains the largest market, but Germany's share highlights its importance in the region's logistics network.

The rise in shipments will test delivery networks across Europe. Germany's 1.1 billion parcels and 7.5% Black Friday growth show strong consumer activity. With air freight handling 400 million shipments, logistics providers are adjusting to meet higher demand.
