Estonia’s 500-Million-Euro Drone Network to Combat Theft Nationwide

Estonia has announced plans for a nationwide anti-theft system using drones. The project will cost nearly 500 million euros over the next four years. Officials aim to cover the entire country with detection technology.

The tender for the system has been set at 460 million euros. This figure forms the bulk of the estimated 500 million euro budget. However, no minister or state secretary has been named as overseeing the project.

No clear timeline for the start of work has been provided in public documents. What is known is that full implementation will not happen before the end of 2027. The system is designed to detect thefts across Estonia’s entire territory.

The project represents one of Estonia’s largest security investments in recent years. Once operational, the drone-based system will monitor thefts nationwide. The government has yet to assign direct responsibility or confirm a precise launch date.
