Eschwege police warn of rising burglaries as winter nights grow longer

Eschwege police have issued a warning about a rise in burglaries during the darker winter months. The latest incident saw unknown perpetrators break into a home on Thüringer Straße in Hessisch Lichtenau, stealing a safe containing cash and jewelry. Property damage was estimated at around €300.

Police advise residents to take precautions to protect their homes and property. Burglaries often occur during early evening hours when it's dark but many people are still out. To deter potential thieves, police recommend keeping homes well-lit, closing shutters, and removing mail from mailboxes. Residents can also significantly reduce the risk of a break-in by implementing small technical improvements and looking out for one another.

Potential targets for burglars include cash, jewelry, electronics, and other easily portable valuables. The head of the press department of the Werra-Meißner Police Directorate in Eschwege urges residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. The press office can be reached at +49 5651 925-123 or via email at [email protected].

With winter bringing longer nights, it's crucial for residents to be extra cautious. By following police advice and looking out for one another, we can help keep our communities safe from burglaries.
