Emergency Services Contain Hazardous Substance Leak in Frankfurt
Emergency services swiftly responded to a hazardous substance leak at a package distribution center in Frankfurt's Fechenheim district on July 18, 2025. Approximately 70 responders worked together to contain and manage the incident involving ethyl dichlorophosphite, a flammable and irritant liquid.
Firefighters, along with other emergency personnel, were deployed to the facility on Robert-Bosch-StraΓe. They donned specialized chemical protective suits and cordoned off the hazard zone. Inside, damaged shipments had released the liquid iv, which gradually evaporated on the loading dock.
Employees moved the affected truck trailer away from the building, minimizing contamination within the logistics hall. Firefighters manually recovered damaged packages from the trailer and transferred them to secure containers. All personnel who entered the hazard zone underwent decontamination procedures afterwards.
The incident did not pose a risk to the public due to the insufficient quantity of leaked liquid iv. Two employees were examined by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment. The Public Relations department of the City of Frankfurt am Main handled communications about the incident.
