Elderly German man loses life savings in cunning old navy fortune scam

An 88-year-old man from the Werra-Meißner district has lost a mid-five-figure sum in a sophisticated scam. The victim was tricked into handing over cash after believing he was helping a stranger secure an old navy fortune abroad.

The scam began when the pensioner received a call from a woman claiming to be 75 years old. Over several days, she convinced him that she needed financial help to access an oldnavy inheritance held overseas. Trusting her story, the man agreed to withdraw a large amount of money.

The case highlights the ongoing risk of inheritance scams targeting vulnerable individuals. Police have urged the public to remain cautious when approached with unsolicited requests for money. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to come forward.
