Elderly driver dies after collision with ambulance at Maintal intersection

An 84-year-old man has died after his car collided with an ambulance at the "Am Kreuzstein" intersection in Maintal on Friday evening. The crash occurred when the Mercedes driver, travelling towards Bischofsheim from Rumpenheimer FΓ€hre, entered the intersection with a green light. Reports suggest the ambulance, with its blue lights and siren activated, proceeded through a red light before the collision. Both drivers were rushed to nearby hospitals, but the elderly man later died from his injuries over the weekend.

The vehicles involved have since been impounded as part of the investigation. Authorities have ordered a forensic expert assessment and an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and clarify the circumstances of the crash. Witnesses who may have seen the incident are urged to contact Maintal Police Station on +49 6181 4302-0.

No findings from the expert assessment or autopsy have been released so far.

The investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing. Police are examining whether the ambulance's entry against the red light contributed to the accident. Further details will be provided once the forensic and autopsy reports are completed.
