EBRD Backs UzCarlsberg with $6M Loan to Boost Brewery Operations in Uzbekistan

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has agreed to provide a working capital loan of up to US$6 million (€5.7 million) to UzCarlsberg, Uzbekistan’s sole brewer of international branded products. The funding is designed to improve the company’s operational flexibility and strengthen food safety standards in the country.

UzCarlsberg will use the loan to purchase essential ingredients and packaging materials. This financial support comes at a critical time, as the brewer faces higher demand during the summer months. The injection of capital will also help the company manage seasonal stock more effectively.

The project is backed by the Japan-EBRD Cooperation Fund, adding further support to its goals. Uzbekistan has been the largest recipient of EBRD funding in Central Asia over the past five years. To date, the bank has invested over €5.5 billion in the country through 174 projects, with a strong focus on private sector development.

The loan aims to enhance UzCarlsberg’s efficiency while raising food safety standards in Uzbekistan. With the EBRD’s continued investment in the region, the brewer is expected to benefit from greater financial stability and improved production capabilities. The funds will also help meet peak-season demand more smoothly.
