Drunk relative steals €2,000 medical device during patient treatment in Baunatal

A medical device worth nearly €2,000 was stolen from a home in Baunatal on Monday evening. The theft occurred while paramedics were treating a patient inside. Police later arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with the incident. The incident began around 6:30 p.m. when paramedics arrived at a Baunatal residence to assist a patient. During the treatment, a suction pump was taken from the property. Officers were called shortly after the theft was discovered. Police quickly located the stolen device hidden on a balcony. The suspect, identified as a male relative of the patient, was apprehended at the scene. A breath alcohol test revealed he had a reading of 3.1 per mille. While in detention, the man required medical attention himself. An ambulance was called, though not the same crew that had been robbed earlier. He remains in custody following the arrest. The stolen suction pump has been recovered and secured by authorities. The suspect faces theft charges, with further legal steps expected to follow. Police have not disclosed whether additional individuals were involved in the incident.
