Drunk man arrested for burning election posters and anti-constitutional rant in Frankfurt

A 47-year-old man was arrested in Frankfurt after allegedly tearing down and burning election posters. The incident took place late in the evening on Hohlbeinstraße in the Sachsenhausen district. Police also accused him of shouting anti-constitutional slogans while heavily intoxicated.

The disturbance began at around 9:10 p.m. on February 27, 2026. Witnesses saw the man remove two election posters and set them alight. They quickly put out the flames before officers arrived.

When police reached the scene, they found the suspect with a breath alcohol level of nearly 3.0 per mille. Authorities took him into custody to sober up. He now faces charges related to property damage and potential violations linked to the slogans he reportedly shouted.

Nationwide data shows 27,835 politically right-motivated crimes recorded up to September 2025, including 991 violent offences. However, specific figures for election poster vandalism or anti-constitutional slogans during the past year remain unclear.

The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue. Police are reviewing witness statements and evidence from the scene. The case will determine whether further charges will be filed beyond public intoxication and property damage.
