Drunk, high probationary driver leads police on wild Kassel chase
A 26-year-old probationary driver from the Kassel district now faces multiple charges after a late-night chase through the city. Police initially pulled him over for driving without headlights but discovered far more serious offences during the stop.
The incident began around 11 p.m. on Kurt-Wolters-StraĆe when officers noticed a car with no headlights on. Instead of stopping, the driver sped away, leading police on a pursuit through Kassel. His reckless flight triggered a separate investigation for illegal street racing.
When finally apprehended, the man admitted to smoking marijuana before driving. A bag of the drug was found inside the vehicle. A breathalyzer test then revealed his blood alcohol level at 1.3 per milleāwell above the legal limit. As a probationary licence holder, he was legally banned from drinking any alcohol. Officers confiscated his licence on the spot and took him to the station for a blood sample. Despite the high-speed chase, no injuries were reported.
The driver now faces charges for driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs. His probationary status and refusal to stop for police have added to the legal consequences. The case remains under investigation by Kassel-Mitte precinct.
