Car catapulted into the air during police chase - Drunk driver's car flies 30 metres mid-police chase in Germany
A drunk driver's car flew roughly 30 metres through the air during a police chase in Weilburg. The 39-year-old man suffered minor injuries in the crash. Authorities have since charged him with multiple offences, including dangerous driving and fleeing the scene of an earlier accident.
The incident began when the driver sideswiped a parked vehicle and left without stopping. Police later spotted him and attempted to pull him over, but he accelerated away.
During the pursuit, he overtook several cars at high speed before entering a roundabout. His vehicle launched into the air as he tore through it, landing metres away. Officers confirmed he was heavily intoxicated at the time.
Records show no similar cases in Germany over the past five years. Police reports and public statistics list no other vehicles being catapulted through roundabouts during chases between 2021 and 2025.
The man now faces charges for endangering road traffic, hit-and-run, and illegal street racing. His blood alcohol level and reckless driving led to the rare and dramatic crash. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
