Drunk driver's arrest uncovers two unregistered used cars with fake plates
A drunk driver was arrested in Selters after police stopped his vehicle on Mühlstraße late last week. The incident escalated when the man allegedly verbally abused officers and made threats during the stop. Authorities have since launched multiple criminal investigations.
The trouble began when officers pulled over the suspect for a routine check. A breathalyser test showed he was over the legal alcohol limit, prompting a blood sample to be taken as evidence. Criminal proceedings for drunk driving were immediately opened.
During the stop, the man reportedly hurled insults at the officers and issued threats. His aggressive behaviour led to additional charges, including coercion and verbal abuse of law enforcement.
Further investigation revealed two unregistered used cars with falsified licence plates at a property in Obershausen. Both were seized by police. The suspect now faces a string of allegations, from document forgery and tax evasion to insurance fraud and misuse of registration plates.
Under Hessian law, operating an unregistered vehicle carries heavy penalties, including fines of up to €10,000 and possible imprisonment. Courts may also impose driving bans of six months to five years and order vehicle confiscation under §69 of the German Criminal Code.
The case will now proceed through the legal system, with the suspect facing multiple charges. If convicted, he could receive fines, a lengthy driving ban, or even jail time. Police have confirmed the impounded used cars remain in custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
