Drug-impaired driver crashes rental car on icy Kassel roads after snowstorm
A 29-year-old driver crashed his rental car in Kassel early Wednesday morning. The accident happened near Wilhelmshöhe Mountain Park after heavy snow made roads dangerously slippery. Police later confirmed the man tested positive for drugs in a preliminary screening.
The incident took place around dawn on a stretch of Tulpenallee. The Hungarian resident was travelling from Wilhelmshöhe Allee toward Rasenallee when he lost control of his Opel Astra. The vehicle sustained several thousand euros in damage.
After the crash, officers took the driver to a police station for a blood sample. A rapid drug test returned positive results for cocaine and THC. Authorities noted no similar drug-related traffic accidents had been recorded in the Kassel area over the past year.
The man now faces further investigation following the positive drug test. His blood sample will undergo detailed analysis as part of the ongoing case. Road conditions at the time of the crash were described as hazardous due to heavy snowfall.
