Bridge to Nowhere and Bicycle Speedometer Land in Black Book - Dresden's Bike Barometers Criticized, Radeburg's Bridge to Nowhere Stands Unused
Dresden's bicycle barometers, part of a comprehensive transportation plan, face criticism from the Federal Association of Taxpayers. Meanwhile, a 900,000 euro bridge in Radeburg stands unused due to lack of funds.
The city of Dresden has installed bicycle barometers to enhance transportation data and perception of bicycle traffic. Each barometer costs 45,000 euros, with the city covering around 16,000 euros of the expense. However, the Federal Association of Taxpayers has included these barometers in its Black Book, criticising them as unnecessary and expensive for their representative purpose.
In Radeburg, a bridge was constructed as part of a new motorway connection at a cost of 900,000 euros. Unfortunately, due to insufficient funds, the bridge remains unused. Known as a 'bridge to nowhere', it stands idle with access prohibited and construction waste nearby. The State Office for Road Construction and Transport plans to complete the project once budget requirements are met.
The bicycle barometers in Dresden and the unused bridge in Radeburg have drawn criticism from the Federal Association of Taxpayers. While Dresden defends its bicycle barometers as part of a comprehensive transportation improvement plan, the future of the Radeburg bridge remains uncertain until further funding is secured.
